My interest in photography began when my family and I moved to Port Orchard a few years ago, and I purchased two horses—an Arabian mare named Misty, and a miniature horse named Cooper… as in a mini Cooper. I began taking pictures of these majestic animals and my casual interest in photography turned into an everyday event.
During 2008, I was honored to work as the official show photographer for the Lower Puget Sound Dressage Club, which was a great learning experience. In 2009, I booked over 200 shows and events, including private farm calls, pet portraits, and people portraits.
Although I started out photographing horses and am still active in that arena (no pun intended), I have since branched out beyond equine photography. I figured if I could capture a horse flying over a jump at mach 50, then I could easily photograph a family! However, like pets, most children (and even some adults) will NOT sit quietly for a picture. Attempting to get my 3 1/2 year old bundle of energy to sit still and smile on command is a sport in and of itself. However, I have found that overly-posed photos (look here and say cheese) tend to produce unnatural, empty looking photographs. That is not what I'm after. So I prefer to take my time with you and your family and wait until I get a natural, spontaneous moment when you've caught eyes with your significant other or shared a quick smile with your child, and THAT is the shot you will cherish!Photos should be fun and simple. Although I cannot promise that I won't ask a Bride and Groom to pose for formal portraits on their wedding day, I can promise that those photos will capture a moment in a most natural way.
When I’m not working as a shutterbug, I enjoy spending time with my family: my wonderful husband, Brett and our 3½-year-old son, Connor. Other family members include our two cats, Felix and Frisco; our dog, Brutus; and, of course, the original inspirations for my photography career, Misty and Cooper. (See pics below.)
In addition to horse shows and private farm calls, I am also booking engagement sessions, senior portraits and weddings for 2010. Please feel free to contact me via email at kristadavisphotos@yahoo.com or by phone at (360) 433-6938.
